Imaginary Ordinary

November 23, 2006

This is going to be a kind of “flashback” post, if you will. On September 25th, I had the “fun-est” night of my life. Behold, some photos and video from my first time seeing Architecture in Helsinki. (Diego saw them too!)

“It’s 5!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

part of “WISHBONEEE”

I can’t even describe how happy I was after that show! Or how tired I was from all the dancing. I wish I could do that every night!

(all of my posts seem to be turning into concert reviews…oh well, this week I saw Amy Millan  and Cat Power, I have photos and video from both!)

The D’s and DCFC

November 9, 2006

The past two weeks have been exciting (musically).  First there were the mighty DECEMBERISTS. Whom I adore tremendously. I had already seen Colin Meloy (lead singer, genius, for the who aren’t fans) solo last January, but I hadn’t seen the entire band. It was an amazing night. They played for SO LONG. You can listen to the entire concert, see photos, and look at the setlist HERE, thanks to NPR!

The band sounded great live, and the set decorations were pretty cool. Red lanterns and a Carson Ellis lithograph behind the stage. Carson Ellis was actually AT the Monday night show, but I went Sunday. No baby Hank was spotted. (I know you’re dissapointed.)

DC loves The Decemberists.

Colin flailing about.

Some clips of  “The Island” Parts I, and III.

“Yankee Bayonet” (minus Laura Veirs.)

“We Both Go Down Together”

“O Valencia!” (he was performing right into my camera. He made eye contact with the lens. Yes, yes he did.)

“July, July”

“Legionnaire’s Lament”

……….

Two nights ago I saw Death Cab For Cutie for the second time with Erin. They were incredible, amazing, wonderful. Ted Leo and the P’s opened for them, they were okay. Ted’s jumpsuit was nice. I just felt bad for them because no one was really into them.

The setlist was absolutely fantastic! They opened with “405″, I have been dying to hear that song live! They played allll the songs I wanted to hear. They even played “President of What” during which I almost went crazy. It was so good to hear more of their older material, not that I don’t adore PLANS. And they played Expo ‘86! Another favorite.

I have a ton of video from that show as well! I’ll upload it later. No time nowww!

OH! Annnd….Erin and I waited for over an hour to snap a photo and exchange a few words with Chris Walla. She’s got the photo, I’ll put it up! He was very polite and put up with the hoards of teenagers very well, he was unbelievably patient, and took a photo with everyone that wanted one. That was so great of him.

I even got to tell him I liked Hall of Justice, his site where he’s put up some of his photography.(which came out more like “I really like your site with your photos!! due to my shock/awe/excited-ness, and numbness from the cold. Hooray for sounding like an idiot.) His photos are all great, and it’s so refreshing to see that really talented musicians are also interested in other areas of art.
