These are some photos from the Whitney Summer of Love Show (amazing) and the Guggenheim. They were pretty strict about no photos @ the whitney, but i managed to get a few.

these are some photos that pat (see photo above) took from inside the museums.

(this room had strobe lights and a rainbow swirled floor. it kind of hurt)

Wolf Parade in Williamsburg

August 27, 2007

I had an amazing time in new york last week. Remnants of my trip will flow in slowly, there’s just too much for one post. I hung out in brooklyn one day and saw wolf parade that night. I have a lot to say about how much fun I had in williamsburg, but for now I’ll just talk about (one of the)shows I saw during my time there. Wolf Parade was fantastic! I normally wouldn’t say they play dance music, but their live show was definitely a dance show. Something about them live just becomes really danceable. The venue was really cool too, the Warsaw. It’s actually a Polish club/home place. The atmosphere felt like an 80’s high school dance, and the management was reallly really loose and easy going. I didnt get any stamps, X’s, or wristbands. It was weird!

Noot and Plants and Animals opened. Noot was a pyschotic canadian kid with a keyboard who looked like he was seven. After his set I was afraid for my life. He seemed like he would snap and go on a homicidal rampage any minute. It was a really uncomfortable performance.  Plants and Animals were great though, super catchy. The video I got of them isn’t great, you can’t really hear the vocals:

Wolf Parade (they played mostly new material. It was different, but very good! and sorry for not really being able to hear the vocals):

Jamie Burmeister

Check this super cool artist named Jamie Burmeister out! He had a recent exhibit at the Sheldon Art Gallery here in Lincoln, NE.

I leave for Interlochen Arts Academy next week and my computer has stopped working. I’ve been checking my email off of my sister’s laptop mainly, although I am on my father’s work laptop right now. It’s a Dell and I really like it, surprisingly.

I don’t know what’s wrong with my iBook. Sometimes it will turn on and not boot. Other times it will force me to restart it soon after logging in. The people fixing it aren’t the greatest, either. I hope it doesn’t come down to my having to buy another computer. I would really hate having to do that.

DEAR DIARY

August 15, 2007

I just finished reading Lesley Arfin’s DEAR DIARY and I think every teenage girl should read it. It was awesome, funny, sad, and really easy to relate to.

“My diary entries became not just my life story, they’re every girl’s life story. You’re not me, but you’re kind of me. You may not have had your ass kicked by your dad, learned  how to weigh coke by a junkie named Skittles, or let a bi-curious cheerleader on K eat you out in the bathtub, but you made a hundred mistakes and you survived. In fact it’s the mistakes that made you who you are today.”

Isn’t that great? There are so many hilarious parts, some really scary parts (i have resolved to neva eva try heroin), and some really inspiring parts. GET IT! …or just borrow my copy.

Updates in the world of cool stuff II

August 13, 2007

Diego did a post like this a while ago that was full of cool stuff, so I’ll do one now. The artlab got me looking at tons of exciting new art. Check out the Team Gallery site to see some of their previous shows and installations, and maybe discover a new favorite artist! You might also want to look at Conner Contemporary Art, a DC gallery. Zach Storm is showing there now . He stopped in one day at the artlab, he’s got a killer seafoam green bicycle and his art is just as cool.
