Mirah + Spectratrone International….

January 23, 2008

with short films by Britta Johnson. Mirah, Spectratrone, and Britta all worked on this project called “Share This Place” inspired by french scientist/poet Jean Henri Fabre and bugs. If you were at her show at the black cat ove rthe summer, mirah kind of gave us a preview of a few of the songs, but last Wednesday at the Kennedy Center she sang them with the animations and band. The bugs in the animations were made out of household objects like….a lot of their legs were the arms of glasses, some of their habitats were made out of apple jakcs and stuff. They were so beautiful, the songs were so inventive as well.

my favorite was the beetle:

so much talent!!!!

Experimental Cinema

May 11, 2007

A while ago I went to the college theatre here and saw a preview of the International Experimental Cinema Exposition. I thought some of the videos were a bit of a joke. They seemed more like a kid playing with a camera and cool effects on the computer and then putting it out for everyone to see as art. I prefer to see these cool effects done in a masterful way. It’s fine to play around and show people what you’ve done in your learning process, but let’s see something that is finalized.

So, this past week I’ve been working on an experimental video to ridicule the experimental cinema institution. I connected a camera to a preview monitor and I filmed the preview monitor with the camera’s “Negative Art” filter turned on. I then put the video together and overlayed some of it and I added some noise. It really is better with a nice sound system that has a good subwoofer, but the internet will give you all the visuals you’ll need. The video is titled In An Endless Loop, enjoy.
