I can’t even remember when after hours at the hirshhorn was, but Lucky Dragons and Hooliganship performed!!!!! Lucky dragons was honestly one of the most beautiful things I have seen. Their music is created by human contact, so it is basically all about collaboration and diy. It was amazing. And inspiring. How fun is it to have the audience make the music and to facilitate that yourself? I don’t know how it really works technically, but there is a reason why Luke Fishbeck was included in the 2008 whitney biennial.

After lucky dragons was the Hooliganship performance. I you have ever seen the multi v’s, think the male version of us with equally rad costumes! haha i really enjoyed them. They are a multi media experience. I’m not sure what else to say. Check out their website: http://www.hooliganship.com/index.html
(they said their projection was 3D, it was not, this is why i like them)
I skipped the raveonettes to see matt and kim at bobby fisher. this show was F-U-N!!!!!!!!! Ingrid and max levine ensemble opened, they were both R-A-D! Since this was my second time seeing them and I was busy dancing, i didn’t take too many videos.
I know there haven’t been many updates in the last month or so, but after I get back from new york there will be soooo much! Photos and video from Matt and kim at bobby fisher, photos and video from Lucky Dragons and Hooliganship at the Hirshhorn, photos from the Multi V’s first show in Baltimore, and a ton of goodies from New York – coverage of Ryan McGinley’s newest show, a special evening with the Fiery Furnaces in brooklyn, photos of clothes that will make your mouth water, and a review of the 2008 Whitney Biennial!!!!!! Hooray!!!! But goodbye for a week or two!
Xiu Xiu show a couple of weeks ago, im so behind! Chris Garneau and Thao Nyugen opened. Chris Garneau was a little boring, some of his songs were pretty but all of his emotions seemed really phoney. Some guy behind us called him cutting edge and left before xiu xiu even came out made me laugh. The show was backstage at the cat and completely sold out. Thao Nyugen is from fairfax so a lot of people were there to see her. She makes pleasant music, but she was such an odd choice to open for xiu xiu. Her music seemed really stupid and LITE in comparison. But they are on the same label, so I guess they sent her out with xiu xiu to get some press. Kinda unfortunate. A ton of people left after Thao. HAH well they missed out on an amazing set.
Women as Lovers is really good and different for xiu xiu, listening to it you can tell that Jamie Stewart’s in love. His new boyfriend played bass for the band and was running the merch table after the show. The set was really moving. Xiu Xiu is just a really beautiful and unique band, and seeing them is always a really intense experience.
Jamie is a very emotional performer, watch this video of apistat commander. It’s too beautiful and it makes me wish i was back there!!!
